Manual for the OCEAN watch for Navy Commanders (Navy Ship Captains)
The watch will serve for many years if properly cared for. It is important to:
Wind fully once a day in the morning.
To prevent damaging the movement and water resistance of the watch, don’t open it.
Not recommended to use for water sports
Not recommended to subject the watch to sudden temperature changes, since it can cause the crystal to fog
Don’t subject the watch to chemicals
Periodically (every 2-3 years) the watch must be cleaned, oiled and regulated.
To set the current time pull out the crown (1) and set the time by rotating the hands (sic) to match the current time; afterwards push the crown back in.
To set the calendar: pull the crown (1) and set the time to 1:00. Then set the time to 10:00 moving the crown backwards, and then to 1:00 again. The date will change. When done setting the date, set the time by moving hands forward to the current time. When done, push the crown back in.
Keep in mind that when setting the current time after 12:00 (noon), the hour hand should be moved 1 hour forward, and only then set it to the current hour.
The chronograph function is designed for precise measurements of short periods of time, up to 30 minutes. If the chronograph is used continuously, the watch precision is reduced.
To start/stop the chronograph push (2). To reset chronograph to zero, stop it by pushing (2), and then push (3).
To determine the distance between the light signal and the sound signal, start the chronograph when the light signal is observed, and stop when you hear the sound. The distance in miles will be displayed on the “Telemeter” scale.
To determine time zone time, by rotating the crown (4) set the triangular marker on the time zone scale against the 12-hour main scale by offsetting it by the difference in time zones between the local zone and the one being determined (poor man’s GMT function). If the local time is ahead of the main time zone, rotate the scale counterclockwise, otherwise - forward. The time displayed on the main dial is the mainl time, and on the timezone scale - local.
Calculating the chronograph time in excess of 30 minutes: before starting the chronograph, by rotating the crown (4), set the triangular index against the hour hand. Start the chronograph. When the chronograph is stopped, determine the elapsed time in the following fashion:
Hours - by using the time zone ring. Minutes - by using the minute mini-dial when the hour hand is in the first part of the hour and adding 30 minutes when the hour hand is in the second part of the hour. Seconds - by using the second markers.
